About Lake Gaston

Straddling the North Carolina–Virginia line, Lake Gaston stretches for over 20,000 acres with more than 350 miles of scenic shoreline. Created by the Roanoke River hydro-electric dam in the 1960s, it’s now a clean, deep-water lake known for excellent boating, fishing, and year-round recreation. The wide main channel is perfect for skiing, tubing, and cruising, while quiet coves invite paddlers, anglers, and wildlife watchers. Its steady water levels and mild climate make it one of the most popular—and reliable—lakes in the Southeast for both vacationers and full-time residents.
